The Five Moms All-Stars
When we started the Five Moms: Stopping Cough Medicine Abuse Campaign last year, it was our hope to start a movement of parents reaching out to other parents about this dangerous trend. As we approached our first anniversary, we looked across the country for parents who had taken up our call-to-action. In January, we began a five-month search for five people who are dedicated to fighting teen cough medicine abuse and are proud to recognize them as our Five Moms 2008 All-Stars:
- January’s All-Star: Rose Mary Kendrick, a D.A.R.E. officer from Sterling, Kansas
- February’s All-Star: Marilyn Belmonte , a local activist in Burlington, Massachusetts
- March’s All-Star: Amanda Smith, a clinical nurse who lives in Anna, Illinois
- April’s All-Star: Gwendolyn Scales, a foster parent from Cleveland, Ohio
- May’s All-Star: Melissa Herzog, a former local PTA president from Woodinville, Washington
Congratulations to all of our winners, and thanks to everyone who shared their stories! All the entries we received in the last few months illustrate how people all around the country have taken the Five Moms mission to heart and are working in their communities to help raise awareness about teen cough medicine abuse. Thank you all for your efforts.
